How the west was dumb-Hollywood style

Born in the west, growing up here and loving every moment of it, I have become more and more disnchanted with Hollywood's interpretation of the wild, wild west as I grow older. Now I spend my viewing time identifying the errors in virtually every Hollywood production portraying western villains and heroes. This blog is herewith dedicated to uncovering and presenting the realities, rather than the fantasies, of western history. Your contributions and your indulgences are welcome. Lets start;
1) most obvious and offensive blunder? The town "sheriff". Marshall, yes. Deputy Sheriff, yes. But town sheriff? Only in the eyes of the myopic screen writer and the dim-witted director.
